Support needed to help keep regional industry growing
One of south west Victoria’s key industry bodies is calling for community support so they can continue providing a voice for the agricultural community.
Food and Fibre Great South Coast (FFGSC) is asking the community to invest in the region’s future by making a small, tax-deductible donations.
Chair Georgina Gubbins said FFGSC was one year into its strategic plan and had made significant headway in supporting the region’s agricultural sector to grow but needed greater financial stability to continue.
“As a small, not-for-profit organisation we are not eligible for traditional forms of funding due to our inability to contribute matching funds.” Ms Gubbins said.
“We are asking the community we are fighting for to support us with a tax-deductible gift.”
Over the past 18 months Food and Fibre Great South Coast has commissioned leading research into region wide growth opportunities through changes to water policy, produced an 18-point plan for water policy development and worked to highlight the varied career pathways available in agriculture to encourage more young people to consider the sector as an employment option, Ms Gubbins said.
“The agricultural industry in south west Victoria accounts for over 21% of all jobs, drives 60% of the regional economy and contributes over $4 billion in annual GRP,” she said.
“It’s vital the agricultural sector has a prominent voice behind it to help foster growth, FFGSC has proven to be this voice and we are determined to continue.
“A commitment to a $5 a week donation, about the same as a cup of coffee, will make a significant difference to ensuring our work can continue and help our region flourish.”
